Fiat has many plants in the Mirafiori area of Turin – Italy.

One of this plant is dedicated to the mounting testing of Gearboxes.

This AGV system is dedicated to pick the gearbox from the input conveyor, coming from the assembly department, and bring it to one of many ZF test stations.

After the test is finished, the AGV bring the gearbox either to repair, if test not ok, or to expedition, if test is ok.

AGV navigation type: inductive wire guidance

Traffic controller: 386 PC, in warm backup, with Digiboard multiserial ports, connected to all devices on the layout, including host communication, DI/DO signals and infrared transreceivers to communicate with AGVs.

Charging concept: charging stations with contacts on top of the AGV, when batteries are low, the vehicle is sent there to stay and charge, as well the AGV goes on charger when there are no transports to execute.

This AGV system is working over three shifts.
